Cityworks Design led a design team for LA County Metro to develop an imaginative, sustainable plan to serve and celebrate the Eastside neighborhoods, focused on four light rail stations in Boyle Heights along the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension into East LA. The team’s effort focused on first-last mile projects that re-imagined and re-purposed streets, sidewalks, and public right-of-way to create a neighborhood network that encourages walking, cycling, socializing, and a sense of community place and pride. The team identified an array of walk-bike opportunities, worked closely with the Boyle Heights community and Advisory Committee to prioritize them, then produced 30% construction documents. A “Street Design Manual” was also produced to protect the Eastside Access projects over time, by eliminating potential roadway widenings in this historic neighborhood. Core principals from the manual were integrated into City of LA mobility and planning documents.
