Cityworks Design has been providing leadership on the Urban Design and First/Last Mile (FLM) planning for the C Line Extension to Torrance transit project that will begin at the existing Redondo Beach (Marine) Station and extend southeast for 4.5 miles to Torrance. A locally preferred alignment (LPA) for the proposed light rail extension into the South Bay is being further evaluated in the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR). As subconsultant to STV, the CWD team supported the Draft EIR and Advanced Conceptual Engineering work to integrate the C Line extension into the surrounding communities. The firm led the development of an Urban Design Guide featuring illustrative concepts which have been the cornerstone of ongoing community engagement. The CWD team helped facilitate design topics at public meetings during the development of the DEIR.
Cityworks Design’s work on the C Line Extension began with the Harbor Subdivision Alternatives Study (2008-2009) where the team provided urban design leadership for evaluation of transit alternatives along a 30-mile rail right-of-way owned by Metro between Downtown LA and the Long Beach/San Pedro waterfront. Lisa and her team were responsible for developing the overall urban design framework and system elements, identifying transit-oriented development opportunities, preparing station concepts and station area plans. During the subsequent South Bay Green Line Extension Alternative Analysis (2010-2012), CWD provided 30% level station design and site layouts on a five-mile extension from the existing Green Line Redondo Beach Station. Following approval of Measure M, a Supplemental Alternatives Analysis was performed (2017-2018) for which CWD developed additional alignment concepts, station designs and access ideas in the cities of Lawndale, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. The firm helped facilitate public meetings to gain input on design alternatives and led stakeholder tours of other Metro Lines.
