Cityworks Design was prime contractor for LA County Metro on this visionary active transportation plan (2013-2015). The plan’s objective was to make it easier to walk and bike to LA Union Station and the future 1st/Central Regional Connector Station from the historic neighborhoods that surround them. Lisa Padilla served as Principal-in-Charge on this innovative first-last mile improvement plan that complements the LA Union Station Master Plan and reframed how people access the county's busiest transit center. The Action Plan focused on improving transit access in a 3 square mile area comprised of seven historic districts (El Pueblo, Chinatown, Cornfield Arroyo Seco, Boyle Heights, Arts District, Little Tokyo and Civic Center). Lisa facilitated an unprecedented public outreach effort with unique community partner events, a public festival, bike tour, farmers market stalls, surveys, and neighborhood-focused conversations. This plan re-envisions over 8-miles of city streets, and has supported several successful local/state/federal grant applications totaling $60 million to date.
