Cityworks Design is providing Urban Design and First/Last Mile (FLM) Planning services for the C Line extension that begins at the existing Marine Station and extends southeast for 4.5 miles to Torrance. Two alternative alignments are being evaluated for the proposed light rail extension into the South Bay, including three potential station locations in Redondo Beach and Torrance. As subconsultant to STV, the CWD team is supporting the EIR and Advanced Conceptual Engineering work and looking at ways to integrate the C Line into the surrounding community.

The firm’s work on C Line began with the Harbor Subdivision Alternatives Study (2008-2009) where Cityworks Design provided urban design leadership on the evaluation of transit alternatives along a 30-mile abandoned rail right-of-way owned by Metro between Downtown LA and the Long Beach/San Pedro waterfront. Lisa and her team were responsible for developing the overall urban design framework and system elements, identifying transit-oriented development opportunities, preparing station concepts and station area plans. During the subsequent South Bay Green Line Extension Alternative Analysis (2010-2012) CWD provided 30% level station design and site layouts on a five mile extension from the existing Green Line Redondo Beach Station. Following approval of Measure M, a Supplemental Alternatives Analysis was performed (2017-2018) for which CWD developed additional alignment concepts, station designs and access ideas in the cities of Lawndale, Redondo Beach and Torrance. The firm helped facilitate public meetings to gain input on design alternatives, and led stakeholder tours of other Metro Lines.

Most recently, Cityworks Design has been providing leadership on the alignment urban design, including station access concepts, a project Urban Design Guide, coordination with Metro's TOC strategic plan team, facilitating design discussions at community meetings, and eventually the FLM planning for all stations. The firm’s illustrative visuals have been the corner stone of ongoing community engagement. The firm helped facilitate public meetings to gain input on the team’s analysis of three build alternatives for the C Line extension, to be considered as LA Metro Board selects a Locally Preferred Alternative.
