The Southeast Gateway Line (SGL) is one of the twelve transit projects funded by Measure R and is proposed to connect numerous cities in the southeast county with Downtown LA and points beyond. This project is being advanced as part of Metro’s Twenty-Eight by ‘28 Initiative.

EIR Study - Urban Design

Cityworks Design has been providing urban design leadership on the proposed 20-mile light rail transit alignment as a subconsultant to WSP during the Draft and Final environmental phases. CWD produced Urban Design Guidelines, developed station area planning concepts, before-after renderings, and contributed to the northern alignment alternatives analysis and special study. CWD’s team facilitated urban design discussions at community meetings throughout the environmental process and produced many of the most public-facing graphics to garner community input.

First/Last Mile Plan

Cityworks Design led the First/Last Mile (FLM) planning for nine stations along the SGL Transit Corridor. The walk and wheel planning area required engaging communities and city staff in 16 jurisdictions. Community engagement was done in partnership with community-based organizations (CBOs) MUSA, Self-Help Graphics and BikeLA through walk audits, community workshops, a women-focused workshop, pop-up events and an online survey. The SGL FLM Plan was adopted by Metro’s Board of Directors in Spring 2024.

Technical Refinement Study

Prior to initiation of the Draft EIR, Metro led a study focused on specific technical issues that needed further analysis after the SCAG-funded Alternatives Analysis was completed. Cityworks Design developed urban design & architectural studies for select station areas, and created maps, diagrams and an illustrative final report.
